The Secret That Lives in Darkness is a ghost story that reflects the grievances and misfortunes that many immigrants carry with them, ones that they must keep in darkness. Most secrets live in the mundane moments, between the lines, and in the shadows.

I wanted to take this theme and write about a Mexican woman who drags something with her as she finds refuge in the United States, to explore how heavy and haunting the past could feel, especially for an immigrant who is running from it.

As stories and characters like these continue to go underrepresented, we must do our duty as privileged Latinos to share them with the world. As a filmmaker, I wanted to attempt at sharing a refugee's pain through a simple ghost story.
